When it’s about sleeping bags, Coleman never disappoints. As a camping enthusiast, I got my hands on the Coleman Brazos Cold Weather sleeping bag, and I am short of words to describe how terrific it is. Anyway, when I unpacked this sleeping bag, it felt super thick, making it warm enough to have a good night’s sleep under the chilly sky. In addition, it’s soft, hot, and large enough for a tall person like me. Also, it has enough space for a child to fit in. More so, stretching your legs is nice compared to mummy style.

TETON Sports Ultralight Sleeping Bag
If you plan on motorcycle camping, this sleeping bag is for you. Honestly, this is a fantastic sleeping bag for the money. It is not considered lightweight for some long-distance hikers, but it’s light enough and small for motorcycle camping. I did spring, summer, and fall camping, and this bag kept me warm.
Also, I went to Australia and camped on the coastal mountains at 7000 ft elevation, and I was a little cool (- 4C), nothing that flannel pants and a shirt couldn’t solve. It’s very well made, and they made the bag a little larger than your traditional mummy bag.
Teton also made a larger-than-normal foot box, so there is some movement for your feet, which I appreciate. The colour is a nice red and grey. The material used inside the bag is very comfortable and warm. The fabric on the outside is very durable. The zippers work great. As with any bag, I recommend a self-inflating sleeping mattress for warmth and comfort from the rocks, sticks, etc.

- The bag has mummy hoods to keep warmth around the head and face, with zipper draft tubes and added insulation in the footboxes.
- It includes a compression sack for easy stuffing and transport.
- Suitable for backpacking and hiking, it features lightweight, innovative microfiber insulation.
- Equipped with hang loops for storage and an interior pocket for small items.
I highly recommend this sleeping bag for people who don’t want to spend a fortune and get value instead. It is exceptionally well made. As with any sleeping bag, be sure to store it out of its storage bag and hang it up or lay it on a spare room bed to retain its loft until your next camping trip; the bag will last for years.
- Enhanced warmth and coziness
- Easy to carry and pack
- Robust materials and design
- May be restrictive for larger individuals
- Might not be suitable for extreme cold
- Some users may find the exterior fabric less durable

I purchased this bag for a road trip. It gets down to the mid-forties degrees Fahrenheit, so I’d be warm enough. There was one night I was too warm in my bag. One night, I was on the cooler side but not miserable. But the other nights, I was just right. I was very comfortable in this bag. I love the flannel, and the bag has a nice loft

The insulation inside is pretty smart – it kept me warm without making the bag too heavy or bulky. And let’s talk about the hood – it’s a game-changer. It feels like a built-in pillow and adds extra warmth to your head.

TETON Sports Deer Hunter and Outfitter Sleeping Bags
In my opinion, this is a well-constructed bag – a highly durable canvas outer shell and comfortable lining (that can be removed for washing). I tested this bag down to 0 on a winter camping trip – I had the bag 3/4 unzipped, and it was still warm.
It’s a heavy bag, so it’s really only useful for car camping. I’m tall with a heavy body and toss a lot when I sleep, so I was a little concerned whether 39″ would be wide enough. So, I’ve only used it unzipped (in zero-degree weather), and it was generally quite comfortable and warm (see below).
Additionally, it includes a shell with durable canvas, but everything is single-stitched, and I’d like to know how that will hold up over the long term. The lining is very comfortable flannel cotton, with velcro tabs for easy removal. The zippers are snag-free- medium size synthetic material that glides quite well. There is no sticking or grabbing in the sleeping bag liner so far.
Velcro Tabs (at the top of the zipper at the head of the bag) – thoughtfully added extra velcro on the tab so that, if you’re not using the tab to close off the bag at the end of the zipper, you can fold the tab back on itself so that it’s not scratching you or the bag.
This is a thick bag (both bottom and top). So, sleeping on any uneven platform, pebbles, twigs, , etc. It will not be a problem (I only used a 1/4″ foam pad underneath it) – it feels like a moderately firm mattress.
TETON Sports Deer Hunter and Outfitter Sleeping Bags
Specifications:
- Made with 600D polyester canvas shell, built to withstand harsh outdoor conditions.
- The bags are equipped with innovative fiber fill and double-layer construction
- Suitable for all seasons, these bags feature a soft poly-flannel lining and a half-circle mummy-style hood
- Includes no-snag, self-repairing zippers for adjustable ventilation
Regarding its size, the hood section (extended bottom piece used to place pillows, etc.) is only about 12″. The inner usable volume (max space between the top and bottom is adequate for my size but not overly spacious. I didn’t feel claustrophobic, but I did leave the bag unzipped. Note that there is a trade-off on this design issue – the more space there is to toss and turn, the harder it will be to stay warm.
- Well-constructed with a highly durable canvas outer shell
- Tested and found warm in temperatures around 0°F
- Thick and insulating, suitable for uneven surfaces
- Heavy and more suitable for car camping
- Long-term durability concerns due to single stitching
- The hood section may be smaller than expected

The real standout was the second night at 11,000 feet, where I anticipated feeling the chill. Surprisingly, the ALTOS bag kept me exceptionally warm, and I even had to unzip a bit to let in some cool air. The bag’s ability to maintain warmth at higher altitudes impressed me, turning my worries about the cold into a night of comfort.

The Buying Guide: Things to Consider Before Buying a Sleeping Bag
Temperature Rating
When buying a sleeping bag for winter, the first thing you need to do is its warmth. A sleeping bag has standard temperature checking methods EN 13537 or ISO 23537, which the manufacturers have now adopted. While shopping for a sleeping bag, you can ask the buyer to show you the temperature rating per winter’s requirement. Moreover, we don’t want you to get chilly under the sky while camping, so it’s best to choose warm sleeping bags.
Fit Size
For every person, the size of a sleeping bag varies. You should find one that fits you and is neither tight nor loose. A tighter one will give you a suffocating effect, causing you to have an uncomfortable night’s sleep. On the contrary, a loose sleeping bag will have a space for air circulation, resulting in a colder night inside the bag. We want your torso to rest in a warm and comfy bag, so choose the one with an appropriate fit size and, of course, the warmth.
Weight & Pack Size
Don’t make a fool of yourself while packing a sleeping bag for camping. There’s no one type of camping; it involves many different kinds. You can have a bigger sleeping bag with much space for car camping. Since car camping is all on the wheels, the bag won’t be heavy for you to carry. On the other hand, if you plan to go camping in the mountains, which involves trekking, you should go for a lighter sleeping bag. The weight of a lightweight sleeping bag can be around 2 lbs, and that of a heavier one is 3 lbs. To top it off, if you want to roam around the jungle and mountains, cut off some weight by buying the lightest sleeping bag that’s easy to carry when packed.
Insulation
When choosing a winter sleeping bag, understanding insulation is crucial. Insulation keeps you warm by trapping your body heat. There are two main types: down and synthetic. Down insulation is lightweight and offers excellent warmth but may lose effectiveness if wet. On the other hand, synthetic insulation retains some warmth even when damp and is more budget-friendly. Consider your priorities and the expected weather conditions when deciding on the insulation type for your winter sleeping bag.
Construction
The construction of a winter sleeping bag affects its durability and performance. Furthermore, look for sturdy stitching and quality zippers to ensure your bag can withstand regular use in cold conditions. Pay attention to the hood and draft collar features, as they help trap heat and prevent cold air from seeping in. Additionally, check for reinforced footboxes and snag-free zipper designs for added convenience during those chilly nights. A well-constructed winter sleeping bag ensures a comfortable and reliable experience in the great outdoors.
Budget
Your budget plays a significant role in selecting the right winter sleeping bag. While high-end options may offer top-notch features and materials, budget-friendly alternatives provide reliable warmth and comfort. Consider your camping frequency and the expected temperature range during your trips. Finding a balance between affordability and essential features ensures you get the most value when investing in a winter sleeping bag.
